Early Goddess Image - Hand painted silk scarf

Goddess image from a mammoth ivory sculpture found in Haute Garonne, France, c. 23,000 B.C. Many explanations have been given for the unusual shape of the body parts on this small figurine. Is it a stylized fertility image, not a real female body? Does it represent the way a pregnant woman’s body appears, as viewed looking down at herself in the 9th month? Border design depicts the headless hands of the Goddess as seen in old kilim rugs. When gathered into a neck scarf, only the wearer knows what lies hidden among the silken folds.
